The Sun Inn

6-14 Market St, Ulverston LA12 7AY, UK – 01229 585044

Went for a day trip to meet up with some friends of my mother I'm law and father in law could not fault this place at all. Food was excellent and plenty of it too. Lorraine is wonderful and never stops running around and her husband Clint who's the chef is a wonderful cook. Fully recommend this place on a day to ulverston. X

Entertaining people watching! Staff work really hard but ladies toilets are carnage.. felt sorry for the girl on duty. Chin up lass I hope they pay you well x

Lonsdale House Hotel

11 Daltongate, Ulverston LA12 7BD, UK – 01229 588278

Beautiful place, lovely rooms. Garden is specially nice. Breakfast is very good

Really enjoyed our stay at Lonsdale House hotel. The staff were very welcoming even allowing us to check in early. The room was lovely and warm with a nice view over the town. We were also lucky to have a jacuzzi bath which was very nice. Would happily stay again

Premer Inn Ulverston Hotel

N Lonsdale Terrace, Ulverston LA12 9AU, UK – 0871 097 1081

Usual comfy bed, great views from the side of the hotel that looks over the canal (not all rooms have this) and the air con works a treat. Quite a new hotel so still looks smart inside. Ice cream vending machine just as you pass it to head back to the room is lethal - it even takes contactless cards! 15 min walk into town isn't too bad.

Typical of premier inns very comfortable and clean. This place only opened 8 Jan 18 and so is very modern. Located by a canal and very quiet away from main road. Ideal for visiting Ulverston. Staff very friendly and food good.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Mill at Ulverston

Mill St, Ulverston LA12 7EB, UK – 01229 581384

Delicious Sunday Roast and a pretty old brick building. Pub also appeared to have a roof top which wasn’t open when we visited. Some picnics benches out front was a great spot to have a drink and watch the town pass by.

Great range of beers, Lancaster and others. Good value and tasty food. Gorgeous old mill conversion. What else could you want?

Rose & Crown

22 King St, Ulverston LA12 7DZ, UK – 01229 583094

Love this lil pub, cosy surroundings, good drinks with excellent selection of Gins, the food is amazing 🤤 and the staff Stacey & threlly and everyone else good fun, lovely and helpful 🤟

Light Sunday lunch in the Rose and Crown. Baguettes all round and chips to share. Only £6 each and a BIG helping. Highly recommend.

The Stan Laurel Inn

31 The Ellers, Ulverston LA12 0AB, UK – 01229 582814

We can't really fault this as a pub, good quality ales from the well stocked bar and excellent food at competitive prices. The dropped star is more from personal preference. I like country inns with good views, which this is lacking, Ulverston is a market town, I hesitate to use the term 'quaint' , but can think of no better way to describe it. The accommodation is very basic but if all you need is somewhere to sleep at night it's functional enough. No 'luxuries' to speak of. The proprietors are welcoming but the opening hours slightly restricting. The stan laurel is easy to get to by car just look for the Ford main dealer that's next door as you drive along the main duel carriageway, but be aware that off road parking is limited. I am not in the position of being able to comment on its accessibility if you are not driving to the pub as I don't know about bus or rail links to the area. In a nutshell, well worth a visit but probably not somewhere you would want to visit (no fault of the pub ) for any sustained length of time unless you are prepared to foray out. A good base for exploring the southern section of the lake district.

Really nice pub. Very good meals. Nice friendly place. Photos and figurines of laurel and hardy every where. Could take my eyes of the walls. Recommended to everyone to visit at least once.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Newland valley log cabins

Alpine Roa, Newland, Cumbria LA12 7QD, UK – 01229 588350

Peaceful log cabins fitted to a good standard. They make a very good impression when you arrive. Surrounded by trees so midges quite a problem. We had lovely weather and sat outside on the verandah. A nice outdoor sofa would be fab as we didn't trust the creaky chairs. Lovely country kitchen but not many places to store our groceries. As someone mentioned before, the lights could do with being brighter. It is a lovely peaceful place to stay, with the sound of birdsong instead of road noise. I have given 3* mainly because of the beds being much harder than we like so we didn't sleep very well, but this might suit some people.

Beautiful log cabin - a work of art in itself. Very well equipped and with a thoughtful welcome tray including milk, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and a bottle of wine, which were all much appreciated. A warm greeting from Louise. Extremely well furnished and equipped with many extras such as games, books and magazines. Fabulous location in stunning countryside and so peaceful. If being very picky and accounting for four rather than five stars, we would make the following suggestions:- We were blessed with glorious weather and would have appreciated some rather more comfortable chairs on the verandah. Lighting was a little on the dim side, especially when cooking. Lacking some shelving in the bathroom. A good non-stick frying pan or wok would have been handy. Two frying pans were provided but they had definitely lost their "non-stick!" Overall, a lovely property and highly recommended.

Sea Wood Bed & Breakfast

Seawood, Ulverston LA12 9EN, UK – 01229 581973

Really enjoyable stay

Sea Wood is a wonderful B&B! Sue completely made my Mum feel so welcome and there was no end of 'special little touches', or acts of kindness to make her feel at home. Seawood is utter tranquility! And is beautiful inside and out. I do not have any hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is looking for the perfect place to stay!

Rock House Bed & Breakfast

Rock House, 1 Alexander Rd, Ulverston LA12 0DE, UK – 01229 586879

Great place to spend the night. Nice rooms and tasty breakfast! Would recommend.

So lovely! Gorgeous house with amazing facilities for guests (own large living room!) my room was fab- nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean. Linda and Ian were so welcoming. Only had one night at the start of the Cumbria way, but I'd have happily stayed longer. Ulverston is very nice too.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
